The Void Within

The Void Within is a plot that began on June 17th, 2024.

Plot

A prelude to the Void Within came about at the end of the 2023 Faerie Festival when a mysterious, unseen puppeteer, along with Vira, saw the event from afar, planning on weakening the Faeries' power. Two months later, Orion, being overwhelmed by visions of the puppeteer's plot after discovering a lyre in the snow, begs Reina to cancel that year's Advent Calendar. Then, the day after the Day of Giving, Orion found out that he could display his visions to others by playing the lyre. These visions show an Aisha (named Nyx) and Faellie (named Juni) who were lost in a corrupted realm beyond time and space called the Void. As the realm's energy corrupted them further, Juni begins to sacrifice himself by combining found materials to create a device capable of quelling the mysterious energy coursing through them. As Nyx grieves for her dear Faellie, her strong emotions merge with her otherworldly energy, causing her to accidentally tear open a hole in the space-time continuum, leading her to Brightvale.

About three months after the space-time rift opened, various Neopians (such as shopkeepers, daily hosts, and even Faeries) became Grey under mysterious circumstances, with rumours stating that pets afflicted with this Grey curse lose their motivation, and that they cannot change colours no matter what. During the Festival of Neggs, when Orion stepped in to cover for the greyed-out Kari, he gets more visions that lead him to a musical lava cylinder inhabited by a new, undiscovered Petpet named Tuffala.

Then, as the Grey curse plagues Meridell, notably leaving its greatest knights Jeran and Tormund unable to act, the unaffected rulers and heroes of Neopia receive a call to action!

Just when Nyx made an effort in reaching Brightvale, Baelia and Tavi got there to find some wispy creatures from the Void wreaking havoc on the now greyed-out kingdom. Vira then appears for a brief moment before attacking Tavi. Then, Nyx appears, saving Baelia and Tavi from further harm. After explaining that she has no control over her powers, Nyx and her new companions set out to the Hall of Heroes to find a solution to cure her and her Faellie, who is in critical condition. After Nyx and Juni attempt to prove that they are not contagious to the Council, Fyora calls for Luxinia, a Light Faerie with a unique power, so she could help shed some light on this predicament. When Luxinia holds Nyx's uninfected hand, visions of the Aisha's life flash before the Faerie's eyes, causing her to shed a tear.

Later, with some assistance from Scintilly and Jerdana, Dr. Landelbrot gets to work on two void dampener devices: one for Juni and an upgraded one for Nyx. By reverse engineering the void dampener prototype that Juni cobbled together, using more advanced material, Dr. Landelbrot created a more compact version of Juni's device to save the Faellie. Meanwhile, the Library Faerie discovers an ancient tome titled "Navigating the Void" that held some secrets about the Void.

Then, after Kiko Lake was turned grey, Nyx and co. travel to Neopia Central to find her old, abandoned childhood home. After getting ambushed by more Voidlings and Void Prowlers, she finds her estranged younger brother, Ozzy (otherwise known as the Grey Painter), along with Vira, who then traps Nyx whilst he starts to turn their hometown grey. After Baelia tries to reason with him, Tavi tackles Vira, and then Nyx is freed. When the siblings meet once more, it is revealed that the two had not seen each other in 20 years, as Nyx had left her home to join the Virtupets Delivery Co. before getting trapped in the Void. Then, Ozzy lashes out and creates a grey paint flood to swamp Neopia Central, destroying his childhood home in the process. After Baelia swamps herself with the grey torrent to save her friends so they could escape, Luxinia swoops in and saves her.

As Nyx and co. escape to the Haunted Woods, they get caught in some of Ozzy's paint. After successfully getting out, Luxinia heals Baelia, and the gang get some much-needed respite. Then, after going out with Juni to retrieve some camping supplies, Tavi tries to calm them down by serving them tea and telling them of her past.

Participation

Void Essence Collection

Players are instructed by Dr. Landelbrot to find and retrieve 10 void essences in three select Neopian worlds (originally Brightvale, Meridell, and Roo Island) per day, earning 5 Plot Points per essence. Players can also receive a bonus item prize for finding 80% of all available void essences in a week, as well as a community bonus if they collectively reach 10 million total retrieved void essences.

Any missing void essences cannot be made up as they will disappear the following day.

Volunteer Centre

Starting from July 8th, players became able to sign up their pets for hospital shifts lasting 6 hours each.

Once a pet's shift is completed, the user will receive 20 plot points and a random item prize related to the Hospital and Pharmacy; the pet will also become bloated.

Reserve Barracks

Torakor, the host of the Reserve Barracks

Starting from when the Void rift opened in Brightvale on July 8th, pets around Neopia became able to battle shades (the creatures that have wreaked havoc on the kingdom) in waves. The player will receive 10 plot points per battle, up to 200 per day.

" Welcome to the Reserve Barracks, comrade in arms! In these dire times, we could always use another sword by our side. Provided the wielder knows how to swing it, that is.

We've been recruiting reservists such as yourself to remain on standby, ready to be deployed at a moment's notice. I shall be coordinating with the Defenders of Neopia so we quickly can reinforce any lands that need help fending off attackers.

Report back here if you notice new lands being targeted or powerful enemies appearing. We may just need your assistance!

In the meantime, keep your blade sharp so you can be ready when the time comes. I intend to stay in top form by training with formidable sparring partners in the Battledome every morning! If this is your first time in the Battledome, you might want to study up on the basics first. " ~ Torakor

Orion's Prophecies

Orion's Prophecies was a side quest that was only available to participants of Altador Cup XIX and did not award Plot Points.

Periodically, throughout the Altador Cup, Orion would appear in the news section of its hub page. The user would then have to decipher his vision (which is shown as a pixelated image, akin to Mystery Pic) and its location to find a lost tablet for Orion. Upon finding all four, he would thank the user:

I've put all the pieces together and they created this stone tablet with, and I couldn't believe my eyes, sheet music on it! These pieces were scattered across the globe in some of the most ancient parts of Neopia and somehow had modern-day, Neopian music on them! I couldn't even begin to speculate how this is possible or who or what could have put them there...

For now, all that I could do was play the music. When I did, it caused the wind to pick up and swirl around. The velocity of the current caused leaves and other debris to become projectiles that tore and slashed at me. It was as if all of the air was being pulled into one concentrated mass before me to form something. I kept playing even as the air from my own lungs was slowly drawn out of me. With my final breath, I was able to complete the melody, but before I could witness what materialised in front of me I passed out. When I awoke the stone tablet with the sheet music had shattered once again, but beside it lay another musical cylinder. It is made of air, yet I can hold it as if it is a solid material!

I no longer sense any visions and I'm not drawn to stones like I was before. This must be all that was meant for me here. But I can feel we are one step closer to something big! For now, I will study all that we have learned, but I hope to be able to meet up with you again at the next big event!

He Would also give the user some prizes: an Air Musical Cylinder, Broken Ancient Music Tablet, Inside the Swirling Windstorm Background (only awarded if the user deciphered all of Orion's visions on the same day), and an Orion's Prophecies trophy for their lookup. (As an added bonus, the trophy would upgrade from wood to bronze if the user had previously taken part in Orion's Quests in the 2024 Festival of Neggs event.)

Dr. Landelbrot's Voidworks

Main article: Dr. Landelbrot's Voidworks

Dr. Landelbrot's Voidworks is a game that was released after the end of Chapter 3. In this game, the player must assist Dr. Landelbrot in constructing Juni's void dampener by connecting its regulation cables to correct the flow of Void Energy to bring power to the device. This game can be played once per day, with Dr. Landelbrot rewarding the player with Plot Points/Neopoints and an item prize upon completion.

Cosy Campfire Collection

Main article: Cosy Campfire Collection

Cosy Campfire Collection is a game that was released near the end of Chapter 6. In this game, the player must find gear for Tavi to set up camp before it gets too dark. This game can be played once per day, with Tavi rewarding the player with Plot Points/Neopoints and an item prize upon completion.

Tea Time with Tavi

Tea Time with Tavi is a quest that involves Tavi asking for tea-related items, as well as item prizes from her other game, Cosy Campfire Collection. Players can complete 5 quests and cancel 2 quests of Tea Time with Tavi per day.

On the first day of the quest's release, Tavi would ask for 2-4 items, but this was shortened to just one to reduce the cost of her quests.

Trivia

• The Void Within went on hiatus on November 10th so that TNT can focus on improving the plot, leaving all of its plot point-earning activities to be paused until the hiatus ends in mid-winter 2025.
