Shoyru logo

The Shoyru (shoy-roo) is a little dragon-like Neopet that enjoys flying through the day and night. They can make rather rewarding pets, but can also show fiery tempers if mistreated.[1][2]

Shoyrus are 61cm (2.00ft) on average, making them medium-sized Neopets.[3]

Shoyrus are not limited edition, meaning they can be created year-round. As of August 2022, over 17 million Shoyrus have been created in Neopia, making them the most popular of all Neopets.[4]

Site description: "Introducing the iconic Shoyru! Fiercely loyal (and sometimes a bit fiery when provoked), Shoyru soars on majestic wings while still looking adorable. It loves to fly, day or night, and has the venerable distinction of being the most adopted Neopet of all time."[5]

Appearance[]

The Shoyru was initially based on the Pokémon Mew, but had dragon-like features added to it in order to avoid a lawsuit. However, it now closely resembles a "chibi" version of another Pokémon, Dragonite.

Trivia[]

  • The Shoyru's name literally means "rising dragon" in Japanese.
  • Donna Williams' original job description, as listed in the first incarnation of Neopets' About Us page, included "making sure that your Shoyru has two eyes".[7]
  • Despite their popularity, no Shoyru has ever been one of the main protagonists/antagonists in a plot, though many have had minor supporting roles.[8]
  • Typing *shoyru* on the Neoboards will cause this smiley icon to come up.
