Monkey Quest was an MMORPG game developed by Nickelodeon Virtual World Group.
Although this game was not directly tied to Neopets, some of its developers included Snarkie of TNT, and the game also used Neocash (then called Nickcash).
Description[]
" Go bananas for Nickelodeon's online game for kids, Monkey Quest! Customize your own monkey, then join your friends and fellow monkey battlers on an action-packed adventure into online virtual worlds. Swing through mysterious 3D lands grabbing bananas, conquering challenging quests, battling ferocious monsters, discovering secrets of the lost Monkey King, and using your arsenal of weapons to save the world of Ook from the Shadow Demon Ka! Defend the jungles of Ook to become the ultimate warrior in this kids world where monkeys rule! "
Gameplay[]
In Monkey Quest, players would have their own monkey avatar that would explore various trails and discover the secrets of the lost Monkey King of Ook.[1]
Players could also get pets, of which they would use to battle against other players.[2]
EXP and Leveling Up[]
Experience would be gained by completing quests, defeating monsters, and solving puzzles. As the player's monkey gained more experience, they would level up, becoming more powerful and unlocking each new Monkey tribe. Each tribe would grant the player with new powers and abilities that they could either specialize in or switch between.
The player would also get some Neocash upon leveling up, which could then be used on Neopets and Petpet Park.
Membership[]
With a Monkey Quest membership, the player would gain access to all trails, more quests, monthly weapon loot boxes, and the ability to fast travel.
Pricing[]
- 1 Month: $9.95 per month†
- 6 Months: $7.49 per month/$44.95 per 6 months
- 12 Months: $4.15 per month/$49.95 per year
†The 1 month membership was discounted to $6.95 on its first month, with the user being renewed at the regular rate of $9.95 per month unless the membership was cancelled. This offer was only valid with credit card/PayPal purchases.
Release and Retirement[]
Monkey Quest was released in closed beta in February 2011. Beta testers were rewarded with 25 NC, but had their Monkey accounts removed when beta testing ended in April.
On September 26th, 2014, Monkey Quest was discontinued (along with Petpet Park) after Neopets was bought by JumpStart. Additionally, on the Monkey Quest website, it was stated that Nick Games had started to shift its focus more towards mobile ventures.
