The Koi (coy) is a fish-like Neopet that resides in Maraqua. As a general rule, they are curious and ingenious pets with a knack for creating inventions such as the Utility Fish, which are mechanical sea animals adapted for household tasks.
The Koi is limited edition, meaning it can only be created on its special pet day or obtained from a Magical Plushie, Morphing/Mysterious Swirly/Transmogrification Potion, the Limited Edition Charity Corner perk, Holiday Dream Neopet Giveaway, Species Change Premium perk, or Lab Ray.
Site description: "In the depths of Maraqua, the agile Kois swim with their delicate tails and versatile fins that double as arms. They are natural innovators with a knack for crafting clever inventions to simplify their underwater lives. If there's one thing they can't do, it is saying no to a treasure hunt!"[2]

Previous Versions[]
Koi were originally barely recognizable from their later versions, having broad snouts, back stripes, human-like hands, and a tail resembling that of a Jetsam's.

Koi were later streamlined, receiving proper fins and having their back stripes removed. (A few depictions of these ancient Koi are still floating around the site, notablein Raiders of Maraqua and NeoQuest.)

The finalized Koi, with its long, flowing fins and real-world koi-like spotted pattern, was made into a graceful Neopet indeed.[3] Koi have remained more or less the same ever since, with the only adjustment being to their fins to show more clearly how they can hold things.

- At first, Koi were not limited edition, but the destruction of Old Maraqua may have led them to gain that status.[5]
