The Jetsam (jeht-sam) is a shark-like Neopet that is seen as the opposite of the Flotsam. Although they prefer to stay in the water, Jetsams can move on land and breath air just as well. For the most part, Jetsams are civil, yet still intimidating Neopets that will not attack other Neopets. However, they have no qualms on snacking on Aquatic or Maraquan Petpets and perhaps even those who attempt to cause harm to their friends.
Jetsams are 25cm (0.82ft) on average, making them one of the smallest Neopet species.[1]
The Jetsam is limited edition, meaning it can only be created on its special pet day or obtained from a Magical Plushie, Morphing/Mysterious Swirly/Transmogrification Potion, the Limited Edition Charity Corner perk, Holiday Dream Neopet Giveaway, Species Change Premium perk, or Lab Ray. On 17th May 2001, Jetsams were made limited edition due to the decreasing number of their former main food source, Flotsam.

Previous Versions[]
The original Jetsam, much like the Flotsam, was a very simple-looking, small fish-like Neopet - this time resembling a piranha. Jetsams were redesigned in Y2, giving them a more shark-like appearance; the following year, a poll was held to redraw the Jetsam again, and the winner gave it the streamlined, yet still intimidating appearance known by Neopians today.[4]

- Jetsam's species name is taken from an English word meaning "something cast overboard at sea"[5], much like Flotsam's name meaning "something lost and floating at sea"[6]. Together, their names (flotsam and jetsam) mean "the remains of a shipwreck floating at sea".
