The Flotsam ("flot-sam") is a dolphin-like Neopet. As an aquatic species, Flotsams generally prefer to be in water, but they can move just as well on land. They can also be alerted of subtle changes to their environment before any other pet can.
Flotsams are 21cm (0.69ft) on average, making them the smallest Neopet on record.[1]
On March 3rd, 2001, Flotsams were made limited edition due to them being endangered by Jetsam at the time. Once there was no longer enough to sustain the Jetsam population on May 17, 2001, Flotsams were taken off the limited edition list and replaced with Jetsams.
Site description: "Extremely skilled swimmers, Flotsams are found throughout the seas of Neopia. With powerful tails and robust fins, they can outrace just about anything within their aquatic environment! Flotsams have an incredible knack for sensing danger underwater, enabling them to utilise their awareness and agility to avoid perilous situations."[2]

Previous Versions[]
The first Flotsam had a simple fish-like design, but on June 22, 2000, it was given a dolphin or narwhal-like appearance with a bottlenose beak, two sets of flippers, and three dorsal fins. Its finalized design cut its set of hind flippers, made its beak into a mouth, made its set of front flippers longer, and kept only one dorsal fin.

Trivia[]
- Its name was originally taken from an English word that refers to something lost and floating at sea[3], much like Jetsam's name meaning something cast overboard at sea[4]. Together, their names mean the remains of a shipwreck still floating at sea.
