Ambiguity occurs when something could mean more than one thing. A disambiguation page is used when a term could have more than one meaning. For example, a star can be a shape, an object we see in the sky at night or a famous person. So, you could have a disambiguation page on "star" that gives the choice of meanings, and then someone who links or searches for star will get the list of choices. The disambiguation page should have a short explanation of the possible meanings with links to specific pages.
To indicate that a page is for disambiguation, you can add the template to that page by entering {{disambiguation}}.
