- "Personally, I want to live to sail again, and I'm doing that with or without you."
– Captain Jethro Rourke
Captain Jethro Rourke is the captain of the SS Primella. He was introduced in the Journey to the Lost Isle plot and later returned for Charity Corner 2020.
History[]
Prior to The Journey to the Lost Isle[]
Captain Rourke's past is shrouded in rumors and mystery. According to The Neopedia:
- It's whispered that Captain Rourke once trusted a pirate to share a pile of buried treasure with him, only to be betrayed and marooned on a deserted island. It's also said he once helped the Resistance fight Dr. Sloth at great personal cost, though most rumour-mongers are pretty sketchy on the details. Then there's the story about how he tangled with a Whalein bigger than his own ship, but let's be honest; sometimes a whale of a tale is just a tale.
Journey to the Lost Isle[]
Captain Rourke was the only sailor willing to sail to the Lost Isle, but did so grudgingly and only because his employers paid him handsomely.
When the ship crashes into the Island and is badly damaged, he becomes angry when his employers choose to explore the island instead of helping him repair the ship, something that should have been a much higher priority.
Charity Corner 2020[]
He is employed by Granny Hopbobbin to bring relief supplies to Dacardia, but finds himself confused by the fact he had never heard of this place despite all his sailing. He also seems a little disoriented Granny's extreme optimism when she outright says she plans on depending entirely on charitable donations to get the supplies needed to help Dacardia.
Personality[]
Rourke is a stern, pessimistic sailor who is not at all fond of the prospect of going to a cursed island, but is the only sailor willing to do so, and only because he is being well paid. He is frustrated with his employers in Journey to the Lost Isle, whose optimism clashes with his pessimism. He especially becomes upset when the explorers insist on exploring the Island instead of helping him repair the ship, pointing out that without the ship, they would be trapped, and yet still having to watch as everyone (except Scrap, who he forced to help since Scrap had agreed to work for him) leaves him to repair the ship on his own.
